BCO Manchester Conference Takeaways

Last week the BCO Scottish Committee shared their experience of this year’s annual conference held in Manchester with two breakfast discussions in Edinburgh & Glasgow. MLA welcomed guests in the capital and NatWest hosted us in the heart of the Merchant City to reflect on the vibrancy and buzz of June’s event. 17 building tours, 12 seminars and a variety of socials presented Manchester in amazing light; the energy was infectious and the belief and ambition to dare in a pioneering fashion was evident throughout the city realm, new and retrofit developments, culture, and identity.

The following tours showcased successful developments creating destinations within the city, marrying a range of environments and experiences for a mix of audiences, Enterprise City, Mayfield, The New Bailey, Circle Square, Oxford Road Corridor. The biggest success factor for all sites was Collaboration, with a capital ‘C’ between public organisations, commercial businesses and the citizens and visitors of Greater Manchester.

Both sessions wrapped up with conversations on how can we be more aligned with Manchester’s collective vision for making cities more engaging, appealing to holistically live, work and play and a great experience for all to enjoy.

Conversations with city planning departments, developers and construction professionals are a must to progress this for a citizen led urban experience and we hope the momentum and dialogue continues.

Now time to look ahead and get excited for Dublin 2023.
