KIRKINTILLOCH RESTORATION COMPLETE

MLA have recently achieved practical completion on Kirkintilloch Town Hall on behalf of Hub West Scotland Ltd, finishing the complex restoration of this ‘B’ Listed sandstone Town Hall Building, whilst also extending it with a modern structure to provide a truly flexible public building and useable community asset. The stonework of the original building was in very poor condition, and we have worked hard with David Narro Associates Conservation Specialists and Central Building Contractors (Glasgow) Ltd to restore the exterior fabric.

There has been an element of discovery with this project, as years of plasterboard and layers of paint had to be removed from the interior, in order to restore the original town hall fabric – even discovering the original stained glass entrance screen in somebody’s garage!

Since the project’s inception, there has been many consultation meetings with the Local Authority, Historic Scotland and the Council stakeholders, the objective being to bring the building back in to life as a community and events venue, reinstating it as a valuable, usable heritage asset for the local community.

We very much look forward to seeing the venue flourish in its new role.
