MLA at SpACE

As COP26 kicks off in Glasgow, a pop-up exhibition has opened up in Edinburgh that addresses the climate emergency, and the impact that the built environment has on it.

SpACE – the Space for Architecture, Carbon and Environment looks at the changing climate and the need to reduce our carbon footprint, through a number of case studies on buildings in Edinburgh.

MLA are proud to be taking part with a case study on redevelopment of Meldrum House, a 1950s post-war office building that we are repurposing into a hotel. Having worked with Arup to develop the carbon saving calculations, our study details the significant carbon reduction in reusing the existing concrete frame compared to demolishing the building and starting from scratch.

Taking place from the 1st November to the 4th December, SpACE is open to all. Head to their website to find out more or pop by at the Old Lauriston Fire Station to find out about the impact Edinburgh’s buildings have on our potential for a greener future.
