MLA Support for Strathclyde’s Architecture Department

Through November, a number of MLAers worked alongside Strathclyde University’s Architecture Department to deliver seminars on Professional Studies. The practice has an active and vibrant Culture team, and one element of its work is outreach. That outreach has seen MLA working with the Interior Design course at Dundee University, and we have expanded that this year to work with one of Scotland’s leading architecture courses.

Our Senior Principal Designer, Jacqueline Smith, delivered a CDM workshop to the Year 5 students, helping them to build awareness of the roles of the design team, contractors and clients through the design process. Our colleagues Fei Low and Sahar Latif then visited the Year 3 students, to talk to them about their experience in the industry after leaving University. This was a great opportunity to speak with students who will be entering the workplace as Part 1 Architectural Assistants next year, giving them an insight on what practices look for in candidates, how Covid has changed the work landscape and what they can expect to do when they enter the workplace.

Our Culture Team will be continuing our work in the University sector next year and we look forward to sharing this with you.
