Planning permission granted for Former Tynecastle High School
Planning permission was granted yesterday, approving proposals to turn the former Tynecastle High School into a new student residential development.
The development, for S1 Developments, will create 468 student flats, around a central ‘collegiate-style’ courtyard space, focusing on sustainability through:
- Retaining and converting the main school building which fronts McLeod Street
- 40% increase in green space on the site
- Car-free environment
- 100% bicycle parking
- Adoption of low carbon technologies & no use of fossil fuels
- Planting to encourage bio-diversity & water attenuation
The former school has laid empty for over a decade, and so it’s great news that we can now progress to the next stage in bringing a new lease of life to the building.
