The arrival of February brings with it, one of the key dates in the construction calendar. The Scottish Property Awards is an independent awards programme which aims to celebrate excellence in both commercial and public property. We are thrilled to have two recently completed projects shortlisted across two categories.

Our much-discussed Hendrick’s Gin Palace in Girvan is up for Development of the Year (Commercial) as well as being shortlisted for the Architectural Excellence Award (Commercial). Completed in October 2018 the Victorian inspired distillery aims to inspire curiosity, open minds and serve as a platform for invention.

The Gin Palace is formed of four key elements, a walled garden which encloses three glasshouses, a central accommodation spine which houses a bar, lab space and lecture theatre, as well as three individual still houses and an external service yard with support facilities for the distillation process.

Joining Hendrick’s Gin Palace in the Architectural Excellence (Commercial) category is 2 Semple Street, Edinburgh. This 61,000sqft Grade-A office accommodation on behalf of GSS Developments completes the south-west edge of the Edinburgh Exchange District. The building provides a quality aesthetic which improves and completes the urban block to Semple Street and Fountainbridge.

Comprising five floors of office space, two ground floor retail spaces and already award-winning cycle facilities, 2 Semple Street creates an enviable working environment. The cycle facilities were recognised nationally for meeting the highest standards of cycle friendliness and the building was awarded the highest accreditation possible – Platinum CyclingScore.

Both projects were a fantastic team effort with great clients, and we look forward to seeing how they fare on the evening against some tough competition.
