Tweedbank office starts on site

MLA is pleased to announce that the first building in the Borders Innovation Park for Scottish Borders Council started on site recently, in collaboration with Ogilvie Construction. The new building is located within a former quarry opposite the Tweedbank Railway Terminus, set against the backdrop of the Eildon Hills.

The 2 storey building draws on inspiration from the local rural vernacular, with a simple 40 degree pitched roofscape and separated by gable end walls. The primary civic façade and main entrance will face the railway terminus to the west, with a landscaped courtyard and parking to the east.

Externally the cladding will be a high-quality metal standing seam with natural timber to the external covered entrance. This juxtaposition of hard/soft materials also marks the transition between residential development to the west and gateway to the mixed use of the Innovation Park.

The office is to accommodate circa 150 No. workstations with additional flexible space. With a pitched roof and 13.5m wide floor plate, the building has been designed specifically to make use of natural ventilation and will adopt a “fabric first” approach which will maximising energy efficiency and minimising heat loss whilst reducing the overall carbon footprint. It will also reduce the need for additional energy generating technologies unless otherwise required.
