What’s in store for 2024

Happy New Year, everyone! We hope you’ve all had a fantastic festive season and are recovering from all of the celebrations that marked the end of 2023.

At MLA, we are diving straight into 2024 with a jampacked year ahead to look forward to. Here’s a sneak peek into what’s in store for the next twelve months.

Architecture

With our ‘Village View’ development at Belford Road for AMA Homes progressing well, Phase 1—the existing Douglas House and its extension—will be complete in March for occupation. Phase 2—the new build section that replaces Belford House—is aiming for completion in November 2024.

This year, we are also continuing work on the residential project, The Wireworks in Musselburgh. The initial blocks of the project are complete and now on sale, with more of the project aiming for completion this year.

Having started on-site last year, we will be continuing work on our student residential projects at Tynecastle with S1 Developments, and Haymarket Yards with Woh Hup and Ogilvie Construction.

Now operational, we are eagerly anticipating the public opening of Ian Macleod Distiller’s Rosebank Distillery in Falkirk later this year and are currently underway with work on the associated neighbouring multi-storey car park.

Meldrum House, in the west of Edinburgh, will also be due for completion this year, transforming the former office block into a boutique hotel for The Resident.

At 30 Semple Street, structural alterations are completing and the office refurbishment is planned for completion this year.

Workplace & Interiors

We have been working at The ‘Haymarket Edinburgh’ development for a couple of years now and are really excited that our fit-out project  for Baillie Gifford will complete later this year.

Following the successful fit-out of their Capital Square Edinburgh office in 2022, we are thrilled to have completed the refurbishment of Brodies’ Glasgow office in late 2023, and work is ongoing at their Aberdeen office.

We also finished the fit-out of OVO Energy’s new offices at the Cadworks in 2023 and we’re looking forward to sharing photos with you really soon.

Manchester

Our newest office continues to grow, with exciting projects at Manchester Airport and several repurposing schemes in the city centre.

Consultancy

At the end of 2023 our consultancy team took the time to reflect on the year and what they considered to be some important topics for discussions to have in the new year : Observations from 2023 – MLA (michaellaird.co.uk)

Principal Design

Our Principal Designer and CDM Consultancy Service are also delighted to be supporting our clients, designers and contractors on a wide range of exciting projects in 2024!

As a practice, we are also reaching some exciting milestones. Our Manchester office will be turning 1 in May, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the practice. Throughout the year, we will share exciting insights into the people and projects that have shaped MLA into what we are today, as well as a glimpse into what the future may bring.
